In July 2022 at a family get-together, my mom pointed out a mole on my lower back that looked “not so good”. I didn’t think much about it, but followed-up with my family doctor and was referred to a dermatologist. I had just had a baby 5 months ago, and this was the last thing on my mind. A week later, the mole was removed. As I waited the two long weeks to get my results, I caught myself thinking about the lab professionals looking at my sample, the ones who find out and diagnose the good and the bad – the ones who examined my sample and wrote the report that said “cancer”. I will never forget the day – July 20, 2022 – the day I heard “You have cancer”. From that day forward, every surgery and every procedure that I have ends with a result from the lab. Thank you to the lab for saving my life.
