When Fire Met Blood Bank: Three Codes, One Mission

- The Ottawa Hospital faced a major fire emergency that triggered Code Red, Code Grey and Code Orange. The impact on the Blood Bank was unprecedented, creating significant challenges to our people, processes and resources.
Through teamwork, true grit and remarkable ingenuity, the technologists adapted on the fly, found solutions to every challenge and kept blood available when patients needed it most. The response demonstrated the resilience, expertise and dedication of our transfusion medicine technologists and proved that when the unexpected happens, we don’t stop, we adapt.
