The Medical Laboratory Professionals’ Association of Ontario (MLPAO) is proud to announce they are hosting the first ever Directors’ Think Tank for Ontario Laboratory Leaders.
Laboratory leaders from across Ontario, representing all districts including rural/remote communities, small, medium and large urban centers, education institutions and members of the Ministry will meet at the Sheraton in Hamilton Ontario on Saturday March 2nd, 2019.
With the current healthcare landscape changing in Ontario as outlined by Health Minister Christine Elliott, this is an ideal time for this group to discuss the current health human resource issues that will affect laboratories across Ontario.
44% of Medical Laboratory Technologists will be eligible to retire in the next 4-10 years. This shortage needs to be addressed and solutions provided.*
Over 60 leaders will be meeting to discuss issues and challenges that Ontario laboratories have been experiencing.
The MLPAO has been visiting laboratories across Ontario for the past 12 months, meeting with lab professionals and listening to the current issues. This effort to reach out to medical laboratory professionals has been partnered with laboratory tours for local MPPs. These tours have been providing insight in the work that is done by the healthcare professionals that are rarely seen, as they work in laboratories not accessible to the public.
"This meeting is very timely for us” says Robert Scheuermann, Chair of the MLPAO. "We are looking forward to collaborating and finding solutions to ensure that patient safety is the top priority.”
This historic day will allow for collaboration, networking, and building stronger relationships which will help shape the future of the medical laboratory profession across Ontario.
