Gairdner Microbiome Symposium 2024:  Exploring Nutrition, Health & Culture through a Microbiome Lens

June 20, 2024

The human gut microbiome has garnered considerable interest in the past two decades, both from scientists and the general public. The gut microbiome refers to the collection of microorganisms – bacteria, viruses, yeast and more – that make their home within our intestines. Damage to the gut microbiome has been shown to be associated with, and even cause, a growing number of diseases, including cancer, diabetes, obesity and allergies.  The Gairdner Microbiome Symposium will explore the role of the microbiome in medicine and nutrition, as well as the impacts of culture and industrialization on our gut microbiomes.

Certificate Program in Clinical Laboratory Leadership and Management

Effective leadership and management of strong teams are crucial to the success of any organization, including medical laboratories. To deliver quality laboratory services, competent leadership and management are imperative. Leadership skills are particularly critical for those working in clinical laboratories that provide test results to inform patient care, and they are a vital component of the healthcare system.  University of Washington Medicine is recruiting an initial cohort for our pilot of these three online courses designed to teach leadership and management concepts and skills. These are essential to laboratory staff in supervisory positions, or those seeking to become supervisors.
